Haines, Alaska, located in the northern Lynn Canal, is a small town with a population of around 2,500. It was originally inhabited by the Tlingit people and later became a trading center for the North West Trading Company. In 1904, the town was renamed Haines after a local official, and it experienced a gold rush. Today, Haines is known for its natural beauty and the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, home to the world's largest concentration of bald eagles.
