Kernville, California is a small town located in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains, with a population of approximately 1,300 as of 2020. It was originally settled during the California Gold Rush and was known as "Whiskey Flat" due to the numerous saloons that lined the town. In 1864, the name was changed to Kernville in honor of Edmund Kern, a local Indian agent. The town is situated along the Kern River and is a popular destination for whitewater rafting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. The Kern River Preserve, a notable landmark and nature reserve, is located nearby and is home to a variety of plant and animal species.
