Marrero, Louisiana, located in Jefferson Parish, was founded in the early 20th century as a sugarcane plantation. It was later developed as a planned community by the Marrero Land Company in the 1910s. The area is named after biologist and plant breeder, Edgar Marrero. Marrero is home to the Kenner Boeing Company, a major employer in the region. A notable landmark in Marrero is the African American Heritage Museum, which showcases the rich cultural history of African Americans in the area.
