Waco, Texas, located in central Texas, is the county seat of McLennan County and the largest city in the region. It was established in 1849 and has a population of approximately 135,000 as of 2021. Waco is known for its role in the Texas Revolution and the subsequent Texas Republic, as well as for the Branch Davidian compound standoff in 1993. The city is home to Baylor University, a private Christian university founded in 1845, and the Dr Pepper Museum, celebrating the history of the soft drink brand that was created in Waco in 1885.
