Cerro Gordo is a village in Piatt County, Illinois, US. It was established in 1837 and named after the Battle of Cerro Gordo in the Mexican-American War. The village is known for its well-preserved historic buildings, including the Cerro Gordo Museum, which houses artifacts and exhibits related to the village's history. Cerro Gordo was a significant stagecoach stop on the Illinois & Michigan Canal and played a role in the Underground Railroad. Today, the village has a population of approximately 140 residents.
