Tutwiler, Mississippi, US is a town in Tallahatchie County, established in the late 19th century. It was named after William Tutwiler, an industrialist and president of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. The town is known for being the birthplace of the blues, with W.C. Handy claiming to have discovered the musical genre there in 1903. A notable landmark is the Tutwiler Railroad Depot, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
