The town was later renamed to Marietta after Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France. The borough is home to the Rock Ford Plantation, a historic site that was the home of Edward Hand, an adjutant general to George Washington during the American Revolution. Today, Marietta has a population of approximately 2,700 people.
