Tilton, Illinois, US is a village in Vermilion County, established in 1871. It was named after Samuel Tilton, a civil engineer who worked on the local railroad. The village is known for its rich agricultural history and was once home to the Tilton State Bank, which was robbed by the notorious bank robber John Dillinger in 1933. A notable landmark is the Tilton Train Depot, which was built in 1871 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
