Darien, GA, US is a small town in southeastern Georgia, first inhabited by the Mocama people, a tribe in the Timucua confederation. The town was founded in 1736 by Scottish Highlanders and named New Inverness. It played a significant role during the American Revolution as the site of several skirmishes. Today, Darien is known for its historic downtown area, which includes the Fort King George State Historic Site, a restored tabby fort built in 1721. The town is also famous for its seafood and annual festivals, such as the Darien Spring Festival and the Blessing of the Fleet Shrimp Festival.
