Macon, Georgia, US, founded in 1823, is the county seat of Bibb County and the largest city in the Central Georgia region. It was named after Nathaniel Macon, a North Carolina statesman. The city played a significant role in the Civil War as a major Confederate stronghold and was the site of the Ocmulgee National Monument, a historic Native American site. Macon is also known as the "Cherry Blossom Capital of the World" due to its annual International Cherry Blossom Festival.
