Barboursville, West Virginia, US is a town in Cabell County, founded in 1813. It was named after Barbour County, Virginia, the former home of Governor James Barbour. The town is known for its historic district, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which includes the Barboursville Octagon House, a former estate of Governor Barbour. The octagonal mansion, designed by Thomas Jefferson, was severely damaged by a fire in 1884 and now stands in ruins as a historic landmark.
