Palmer, Alaska, US is a city in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, located about 42 miles northeast of Anchorage. It was established in 1935 as part of a New Deal colonization project, which relocated 200 families from the Midwest and Michigan. The city is named after George W. Palmer, an early settler and businessman. A notable attraction is the Musk Ox Farm, a working farm dedicated to the domestication of musk oxen for their qiviut wool, which is considered one of the finest and warmest wools in the world.
