Irondale, Alabama, US is a small city in Jefferson County, established in 1887 and incorporated in 1957. It was named for the iron industry that thrived in the area during the late 19th century. The city is home to the Irondale Cafe, a notable landmark and restaurant famous for its "mile-high" meringue pies and being the inspiration for the Whistle Stop Cafe in Fannie Flagg's novel "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe."
