Newtown, Connecticut, founded in 1705, is a town in Fairfield County. It was originally inhabited by the Algonquian-speaking Paugussett people. The town is known for its historic district, which includes the circa 1770 Hubbell House, and the circa 1790 Cyrenius H. Booth House. Newtown also contains a notable landmark, the flagpole that stands in the center of its main square, which was dedicated to the town's veterans in 1923.
