Defuniak Springs is a city located in Walton County, Florida, US. It was founded in 1885 by the Southland Railway, which built a railroad through the area. The city was named after Frederick R. DeFuniak, who was the vice-president of the Louisville, New Orleans and Texas Railway. Defuniak Springs is known for its historic district, which features over 200 structures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A notable landmark in the city is the Chautauqua Hall of Brotherhood, a Victorian-style building that was used for educational and cultural programs during the early 1900s.
