Portland, IN, US is a city in Jay County, established in 1836 and incorporated in 1860. It was named after Portland, Maine, by a surveyor. The city is known for its annual Jay County Fair, one of the oldest and largest county fairs in Indiana. Portland also offers a variety of outdoor activities, including canoeing and fishing at the Salamonie River State Forest, and exploring the historic Janet Echelman sculpture, "1.26 Amsterdam", at the city's Riverfront Park.
