Belle Chasse, Louisiana, located in Plaquemines Parish, is a community with a rich history dating back to the early 18th century. Originally inhabited by the Native American tribe, the Chitimacha, it was later settled by French and Spanish colonists. The area became a hub for plantation agriculture, particularly sugarcane. During the Civil War, Belle Chasse was the site of a Confederate powder magazine. Today, it is known for the historic Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel, which connects the community to the rest of Greater New Orleans.
