Montevideo is a city in southwest Minnesota, United States, and the county seat of Chippewa County. Founded in 1873, it was named after Montevideo, Uruguay, by a Spanish railroad official. The city is known for its historic downtown district, which includes the Chippewa County Courthouse, a Beaux-Arts style building constructed in 1910. The city's largest employer is the Montevideo Hospital and Clinic.
