Smithtown is a town in Suffolk County, New York, US, founded in 1665. It was originally inhabited by the indigenous Secatogue tribe and later purchased by settlers from England. The town was named after Richard Smith, who signed a deed with the Secatogue sachem in 1665. A notable landmark is the Smithtown Bull, a 17-ton sculpture of a bull created in 1941 to commemorate the town's agricultural history. Today, Smithtown is a thriving suburban community with a population of approximately 115,000.
