Moncks Corner, South Carolina, US is the county seat of Berkeley County. It was established in 1729 and named after landowner Thomas Monck. The town is home to the Mepkin Abbey, a Trappist monastery known for its Spanish Colonial-style brick church and azalea gardens. During the American Revolution, Moncks Corner was the site of several skirmishes, including the Battle of Monck's Corner in 1780. Today, the town has a population of approximately 10,000 people and serves as a gateway to the nearby Lake Moultrie and Francis Marion National Forest.
