New Caney is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was approximately 22,000. The area was first settled in the mid-1800s and was named after a local family. In 1961, the Pondera Astrodome, a notable attraction known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," was constructed nearby, but it was later dismantled in 1967. Today, New Caney is a growing community with a variety of housing, retail, and recreational options.
