Palestine, Texas, US is a city in Anderson County, established in 1846. It was named after Palestine, Illinois, the original home of many of the early settlers. The city played a significant role during the Civil War as a hospital town for Confederate soldiers. Today, it is known for its historic downtown district, which includes the Anderson County Courthouse, a notable landmark that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
