Kearns, Utah, located in Salt Lake County, was incorporated in 1979. It was named after Samuel D. Kearns, a former executive of the Geneva Steel plant. The city's growth was primarily driven by the construction of defense housing for the nearby Kennecott Copper Mine and the aerospace industry. Today, Kearns is home to the Utah Olympic Oval, a notable landmark and speed skating venue that hosted events during the 2002 Winter Olympics.
