The town was named for its location, which is situated near the intersection of two major roads, forming a "crossed" lanes pattern. Cross Lanes is home to the popular 300-acre Scarbro Baptist Camp, a religious retreat center with various recreational facilities, including a lake, pool, and hiking trails.
