Calera, Alabama, located in Shelby and Chilton counties, was established in 1887 and incorporated in 1914. The city was named for the abundant limestone deposits in the area, which were used to create lime for construction. Calera is home to the Oliver Park and Museum, which features a 19th-century Victorian village and the Calera Depot, a historic train station. Today, Calera is a growing suburb of Birmingham with a population of over 14,000 residents.
