Carbon Hill is a city in Walker County, Alabama, US, established in the late 19th century as a coal mining community. The city was incorporated in 1897 and named for the local coal and iron deposits. During the early 20th century, Carbon Hill thrived due to its mining industry, but the coal seams were largely exhausted by the mid-20th century, leading to economic decline. Today, Carbon Hill has a population of approximately 2,000 people and is known for its historic downtown area and the nearby Lakeview Golf Course.
