Chunchula, Alabama is an unincorporated community in Mobile County, located along the east bank of the Dog River. It was established in the late 19th century, serving as a shipping point for timber and farm products. The community is named after a Native American word meaning "black water." Chunchula is home to the historic Chunchula Bridge, a swing bridge built in 1927 that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
