Clio, Alabama, located in Barbour County, was established in 1820 and incorporated in 1831. It was named after the Greek mythology figure Clio, the muse of history. The town served as a strategic location during the Creek War and the Civil War. A notable landmark is the Clio United Methodist Church, built in 1836, which is one of the oldest churches in the state and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
