Courtland, Alabama, US is a town in Lawrence County, established in 1818. It was named after the Courtland estate in Virginia, owned by the family of early settler William Bibb. Bibb later became the first governor of Alabama. The town served as the county seat until 1829, when it was moved to Moulton.
