Sulligent, Alabama, located in Lamar County, was established in 1882 and named after the parents of a local merchant, Sarah and Samuel Inge. The town was incorporated in 1889 and experienced growth due to the arrival of the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad. Sulligent is home to the Sulligent Bank Building, constructed in 1907, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town has a rich agricultural history and is known for its peanut production.
