Tanner, Alabama is a town in Limestone County, founded in 1835. It was named after John Tanner, a local landowner and merchant. The town was incorporated in 1901 and experienced growth with the arrival of the Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad. Tanner's economy was historically based on agriculture and textile mills. A notable attraction is the Tanner-Davidson Stone House, built in the 1830s, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
