Carbondale, Colorado, US is a town located in Garfield County, in the western part of the state. It was incorporated in 1888 and has a population of approximately 6,500 as of 2020. The town is situated in the Roaring Fork Valley, near the confluence of the Crystal and Roaring Fork Rivers, and is known for its outdoor recreation opportunities, including hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. A notable landmark in Carbondale is the Mount Sopris, a prominent 12,965-foot (3,952 meter) peak in the Elk Mountains, visible from many parts of the town.
