Keenesburg is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States, with a population of approximately 1,200 as of 2019. The town was named after John Keene, an early settler who built a hotel there in the late 1800s. Keenesburg is located about 30 miles northeast of Denver and is home to the Wild Animal Sanctuary, a notable landmark that spans over 720 acres and provides a sanctuary for more than 450 large carnivores, including lions, tigers, and bears. The town was incorporated in 1923 and has since grown to become a tight-knit community with a rich history.
