Leadville, Colorado, US is a historic mining town located in Lake County at an elevation of 10,152 feet, making it the highest incorporated city in the US. It was established in 1877 during the Colorado Silver Boom and was named for the lead and silver deposits found in the area. The town reached its peak population of around 30,000 in the 1880s, but has since decreased to a population of approximately 2,600. A notable attraction in Leadville is the Matchless Mine, the site of the largest silver strike in the state's history and the former home of famous outlaw Doc Holliday.
