Bonifay, Florida, US is the county seat of Holmes County, established in 1905. It was named after the postmaster, Griffitt Boyer Bonynge, who combined his name to create "Bonifay". The town's growth was spurred by the arrival of the railroad and the establishment of a large turpentine still. Bonifay is home to the Holmes County Speedway, a popular dirt track for stock car racing.
