Callaway, Florida, located in Bay County, was incorporated in 1963. It was named after M. Callaway, a sawmill operator. The town was originally a lumber and turpentine camp. During World War II, the Eglin Air Force Base, a significant military installation, was established near Callaway. The city is home to the largest artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico, the Grayton Reef, which is a popular attraction for scuba divers.
