Lake City, Florida, US, founded in 1859, is the county seat of Columbia County. It was originally a cotton plantation area and later became a timber and turpentine production center. The city was named after its numerous lakes, including Lake DeSoto and Lake Santa Fe. Lake City is home to the Olustee Battlefield State Park, the site of the largest Civil War battle in Florida, which took place in 1864. Today, the city is a commercial hub with a population of approximately 12,000 people.
