Valrico, Florida, located in Hillsborough County, was established in the 1880s as a rural community. It was originally called Longleaf, due to the abundance of longleaf pine trees in the area. The town was later renamed Valrico, meaning "rich valley" in Spanish, due to the fertile soil found in the region. Valrico experienced growth in the early 20th century with the arrival of the South Florida Railroad, which made the town more accessible. The town is home to the Florida Strawberry Festival, an annual 11-day event that celebrates the strawberry harvest of nearby Plant City.
