Bishop, Georgia is a town in Oconee County, established in 1890. It was named after Samuel Bishop, an early settler and prominent citizen. The town served as a commercial center for the local farming community. Bishop is home to the historic Bishop Village Historic District, which features well-preserved examples of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century architecture. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
