Gibson, Georgia, located in southwestern DeKalb County, was established in 1871 and named after local landowner John Henry Gibson. The town was originally a railroad depot for the Georgia Railroad. In the early 20th century, Gibson became a center for the shipment of cotton and timber. Today, it is home to the Southern Conservation Trust's Goodwin Manor, a historic plantation house and nature preserve. The town has a population of approximately 2,500 and covers an area of 4.5 square miles.
