Helena, Georgia, located in Telfair County, was established in 1807 and named after the daughter of a prominent citizen. The town served as the county seat until 1830 when it was moved to McRae, the current county seat. McRae Helena, with a population of around 4,000, is home to the Telfair County Historical Society Museum, which showcases local history and artifacts. The town is also known for its annual Pine Tree Festival, a celebration of the longleaf pine tree and the area's rich timber industry heritage.
