Brownstown is a village in Fayette County, Illinois, US. It was established in 1819 and named after Jacob Brown, a war hero. The village covers a total area of 1.1 square miles and had a population of 760 as of the 2020 census. Brownstown is home to the historic Brownstown Covered Bridge, built in 1832, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
