Carmi is a city in and the county seat of White County, Illinois, US. Established in 1814, it was named after the biblical character Carmi, son of Zimri and grandson of Salu. The city is home to the historic Miller's Court, a restored 19th-century shopping arcade. Today, Carmi has a population of approximately 5,200 residents and serves as a commercial hub for the surrounding agricultural area.
