Centralia, Illinois, US is a city in Marion County, founded in 1859 and incorporated in 1866. It was named after Centralia, Pennsylvania. The city was a significant railroad hub in the early 20th century, with the Illinois Traction System and the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway intersecting here. Centralia is known for the Centralia Carillon Tower, a 157-foot-tall tower with 65 bells, dedicated in 1988 as a bicentennial gift from the people of the Netherlands to the people of Illinois.
