Clifton is a village in Cook County, Illinois, US, founded in the 1850s. It was originally a Swedish farming community, with the first church, school, and post office established by 1856. The village was incorporated in 1924, and its population peaked in the 1950s. Today, Clifton has a population of approximately 13,000 and is home to the Clifton suspension bridge, a notable landmark built in 1906, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
