Gillespie is a city in Macoupin County, Illinois, US. It was incorporated in 1896 and has a population of approximately 3,200 as of 2019. The city is named after Edward Gillespie, an early settler and businessman. Gillespie is home to the Benjamin Godfrey Memorial Chapel, a notable landmark and historic site that was built in 1861. The chapel is a well-preserved example of Carpenter Gothic architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
