Hamel, Illinois, US is a village located in Madison County, established in 1858. It was named after Adolph Hamel, a German immigrant. The village covers an area of 1.1 square miles and had a population of 790 as of the 2020 census. Hamel is home to the historic St. Paul's United Church of Christ, a notable landmark built in 1883, which features beautiful stained glass windows and a distinctive bell tower.
