Herscher, Illinois, US is a village in Kankakee County, founded in 1879. It was named after a German immigrant, Heinrich Herscher. The town's growth was spurred by the arrival of the railroad in 1886. A notable landmark is the Herscher Water Tower, built in 1927, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The village has a population of approximately 1,500 as of the 2020 census.
