Philo, Illinois is a village located in Champaign County, established in 1855. It was named after Philemon Beecher, a prominent local citizen. The town was originally a stagecoach stop and later became a hub for the Illinois Central Railroad. The town is home to the historic Philo Grain Elevator, a landmark that was built in 1907 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, Philo has a population of around 1,600 residents and is primarily a rural community.
