Prophetstown is a village in Whiteside County, Illinois, US, named after the Native American leader, Chief Shawunopkohe, also known as Prophet. The village was incorporated in 1855 and is located near the site of the historic Prophetstown settlement, where the Prophet and his brother Tecumseh rallied Native American tribes in the early 1800s. A notable attraction is the Prophetstown State Park, which features a living history site with reconstructed Native American and early American settler structures. Today, Prophetstown has a population of approximately 2,000 people and is a small, rural community.
